BANANA CREAM PIE

one of my childhood memories was going to baker's square for a pie after enduring a doctor's appointment. it was definitely a ploy to make us feel better about the doctor and potential shots. is this the best place for pie...i definitely thought so when i was 10 years old with underdeveloped, uneducated taste buds. it was heaven. i can't say that i know that answer now because all of these restaurants have closed in california since. they're only in the midwest - if that says anything. well, since this was no longer an option, trying to find a pie seemed too daunting of a task, so i needed a sure thing. mind you, i was pregnant at this time, so mama was having a serious craving. remembering a blog post from my dear friend, regina , i called upon her to possibly make me a pie to address this monster craving. and, like a true friend, she made the pie at 9pm in the evening and i was presented with one of the most perfect slices of heaven one can ask for. the graha...

BABY SPRINKLE BAKING MARATHON

sometimes i impress myself! for example, last night i had a baking marathon while intoxicated and everything still turned out well! i was preparing for a baby sprinkle, which is a smaller version of a baby shower for a "seasoned" mom, and took on the task of making sweet treats. i do have to mention that for lent this year, i chose to forgo all sweet treats...so i can only tell you that my treats seemed to get a good response, but i don't know myself. so, i'll trust that my friends weren't just being nice. anyway, so my baking marathon consisted of 6 treats...2 go-tos ( smore's bars & salted chocolate caramel cookies ) and 4 new ones: FUNFETTI CAKE BATTER CHEX BUDDIES these were a favorite fun take on the chex puppy chow aka muddy buddies , but the chocolate & peanut butter is replaced with white chocolate & funfetti cake mix. posted on six sisters' stuff  by camille on february 17, 2012 5 c chex cereal 10 oz vanilla flavored almon...

MONKEY SQUARES

it all started with a search for a new banana bread recipe for my very ripe bananas. as you may know, i actually already had a recipe i found which started the yummypages blog, but every time i made it, i felt like it still wasn't right. so, as i searched, i was intrigued by a recipe for monkey squares...banana bread base with brown butter frosting. when i was looking for a recipe, i was to start baking at 9pm, so i wasn't about to get complex and i was very happy to see that this recipe could easily turn into a loaf, so i went with it! what i realized when i was mixing the components was that the addition of wet ingredients made a huge difference in overall moisture. the original recipe calls for sour cream, but i only had plain yogurt, which is a perfect substitute and it also called for butter, which i was limited to. so, the substitution of canola oil brought the moisture level up a little more. i hope you enjoy the two recipes in one. FRIED BANANA (TURON)

let's be truthful...frying anything makes them that much more tempting. so, give into your guilty pleasure to these super easy filipino treats. they're great at bbq's and warm with ice cream. FILIPINO TURON (FRIED BANANA) posted on nibbledish by lealea halved or quartered saba bananas 1 package of spring roll wrappers (found in the freezer aisle) 1/2 c brown sugar 1/2 c white sugar water 2 c canola oil peel and separate wrappers, set aside. mix sugars in bowl, set aside. depending on the size of banana, half or quarter them. then, dip or place under running water. then roll the banana in the sugar mix. wrap in spring roll wrapper and seal with water. deep fry until golden brown. you can place on paper towel to absorb some of the excess oil, but don't leave too long because the caramelized sugar will stick to the paper.

SIMPLY BANANA BREAD

i was in desperate need to find a delicious recipe for banana bread. nothing is more decadent to me than a thick slice, warmed up, and served with a scoop of ice cream. as fate would have it, we were having a bake sale at work to raise money for st. jude's and there it was...a mini loaf of banana bread for $3. that first bite was full of banana flavor and it was perfectly moist. soon after, i had to track down this recipe...and, fittingly enough, it was at SIMPLY RECIPES . this is a no fuss, no electric mixer needed, bananas need not require over ripening kind of recipe and hopefully someday it will just come naturally to me. BANANA BREAD RECIPE posted by elise of simplyrecipes.com on june 15, 2006 3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed 1/3 c melted butter 1 c sugar (can easily reduce to 3/4 c), but really who are we kidding...bring on the sugar! 1 egg, beaten 1 t vanilla 1 t baking soda pinch of salt 1 1/2 c all-purpose flour no need for a mixer for this recipe. preheat the ...
